Ingredients
  • 3 1/4cups all purpose flour
  • 1/3cup sugar
  • 2 1/2tsp baking powder
  • 1/2tsp baking soda
  • 1/2tsp salt
  • 3/4cup cold buttercubed
  • 1 1/4cup buttermilkmay need more, add 1 tbsp at a time if needed
  • 1package (10 ounces) cinnamon baking chips
  • 2tbsp sugar
  • 2tbsp buttermelted
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 425F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Whisk together.
  3. Cut in butter (with either a pastry blender or two knives) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in buttermilk just until moistened. If dough is dry, add more buttermillk 1 tablespoon at a time as needed to combine all the flour.
  5. Fold in cinnamon baking chips.
  6. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 10-12 times or until dough is no longer sticky. Gently pat or roll into a 10-inch circle.
  7. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar.
  8. Cut the circle into 8 wedges. Separate wedges and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  9. Bake at 425F for 10-13 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serve warm.
Recipe Notes

**Cardinal Rule** If you do not have buttermilk you can make it at home.  Place 1 tbsp of lemon juice or white vinegar into a 1-cup measuring cup.  Add enough milk to reach 1 cup, stir and let sit for 3-5 minutes.  The buttermilk helps keep the scones tender, so try to not skip this step!
